Katrin Weller
Born in 1980. Katrin Weller is research fellow at the Department of Information Science, Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf. She received her PhD in Information Science in May 2010. Her dissertation investigates the effects of Social Web and Semantic Web approaches for improving methods in knowledge representation. Her reseach interests comprise the entire field of Semantic Web, Web 2.0/Social Web and Social Semantic Web and she has published several papers on topics in these research fields (e.g. on ontologies and folksonomies as novel approaches for knowledge representation and indexing, collaborative ontology engineering, tag gardening, and social software in teaching and research environments). Weller has started to work as scientific assistant at the Heinrich-Heine-University in 2005, after finishing her Magister’s degree in Information Science, History and Media Science. She is teaching courses in Information Science since 2006, mainly covering the topics “theoretical foundations of knowledge representation for information science”, “document indexing” and “ontology engineering”. She is co-author of a monthly column on social media trends in the German trade journal “Password”.
